Markdown to HTML

Write or paste Markdown and watch clean HTML appear beside it, live - with a toggle to read the raw markup.

From Markdown to publishable HTML

Markdown lets you write structured text with almost no syntax to remember, then converts it to the HTML a browser needs. Type a hash for a heading, wrap a word in asterisks for emphasis, or start a line with a dash for a bullet, and the preview on the right updates as you go. When it looks right, copy the HTML or download a complete page.

A quick syntax refresher

  • # Heading down to ###### Heading for the six levels
  • **bold**, *italic* and `inline code`
  • [link text](https://example.com) for links
  • - item or 1. item for lists, and - [ ] task for checkboxes
  • Three backticks to open and close a fenced code block
  • > quote for a blockquote

Preview versus raw HTML

The rendered preview shows how the content will look once styled. Flip to the HTML view to grab the exact markup - useful when you are pasting into a CMS, an email template or a static site generator that wants HTML rather than Markdown. The output is clean and semantic, with no wrapper divs or inline styles to strip out afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

What flavour of Markdown does this support?
It uses GitHub Flavored Markdown (GFM), so as well as the basics - headings, bold, italic, links, lists and blockquotes - you get tables, fenced code blocks, task lists and automatic URL linking. It is the same dialect you write in GitHub issues and readmes.
How do I write a table in Markdown?
Separate columns with pipes and put a row of dashes under the header, like: | Name | Age | then | --- | --- | then | Ann | 30 |. Colons in the dash row set alignment - :--- is left, :---: is centre and ---: is right.
Can I see the raw HTML instead of the preview?
Yes. Toggle the preview pane between Preview and HTML. Preview shows the rendered result as it would look on a page; HTML shows the exact markup, ready to copy into your own template or CMS.
Does a single line break become a new line?
No. By default a single newline is treated as a space, matching standard Markdown and GitHub. To force a line break, end the line with two spaces or leave a blank line to start a new paragraph.
Is my Markdown sent to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser with the marked library. Nothing you type is uploaded, so you can safely convert private notes or unpublished drafts.
