Random Picker

Paste a list of names or items and pick one or several winners completely at random - fair, private and free.

How it works

Paste your entries into the box, one per line, then choose how many winners to draw. The picker splits the text on line breaks, ignores blank lines and trims stray spaces, so a list pasted from a spreadsheet or a chat thread works without tidying. When you press pick, it shuffles the entries with the crypto.getRandomValues secure random source using rejection sampling - the same fair method a lottery would use - and selects your winners.

One winner or several

Leave how many to pick at 1 for a single winner, or raise it to draw a shortlist. With without replacement ticked, every winner is unique - perfect for awarding first, second and third place, or picking a panel where no one should appear twice. Untick it and each pick is independent, so the same entry could be chosen more than once. If you ask for more unique winners than you have entries, the tool tells you rather than guessing.

Great for

  • Giveaways and raffles - paste entrant names and draw a winner live.
  • Classrooms - pick a student to answer without always choosing the same hands.
  • Team decisions - who presents first, who grabs the coffees.
  • Secret Santa - draw names one at a time.

Every draw is added to the previous-winners list so you have a record during a live event. Need numbers instead of names? Use the random number generator. For a straight two-way call the coin flip is quicker, and tabletop players will want the dice roller.

Frequently asked questions

Is the pick genuinely random and fair?
Yes. Every entry has an exactly equal chance. The picker uses the browser Web Crypto API with rejection sampling to shuffle and select, so there is no bias toward entries at the top or bottom of your list - fair enough for a real giveaway.
How do I pick more than one winner?
Set "how many to pick" to the number you need. With "without replacement" ticked (the default) each winner is unique, so no name is drawn twice - ideal for first, second and third place. Untick it if the same entry is allowed to win more than once.
How should I format my list?
Put one entry per line in the box. Blank lines are ignored and surrounding spaces are trimmed, so you can paste straight from a spreadsheet column or a list of email addresses without cleaning it up first.
Is my list uploaded anywhere?
No. The entire draw happens in your browser with JavaScript. Your list of names or entries is never sent to any server, which makes it safe for prize draws that include personal details.
