Alphabetizer
Paste a list and sort it A to Z, Z to A, by length, numerically or at random - commas or line breaks, your choice.
How the alphabetizer works
Give it a list and it splits, sorts and rejoins in a fraction of a second. The split is automatic: if your text contains line breaks, each line is treated as one item; if there are no line breaks but there are commas, it splits on commas instead. Whatever style you paste in, the result comes back the same way, so a comma-separated list stays comma-separated and a one-per-line list stays on its own lines.
Sorting uses your browser's locale-aware comparison, so accented characters and mixed scripts order sensibly rather than by raw byte value. Blank lines and stray surrounding spaces are trimmed away before sorting.
The five sort modes
- A to Z - standard ascending alphabetical order.
- Z to A - the same order reversed, useful for "most recent" style lists.
- By length - shortest lines first, handy for spotting outliers or lining up code.
- Numeric - reads the leading number in each line so 2 sorts before 10, not after it.
- Shuffle - a fair random reorder using cryptographic randomness, good for draws and random running orders.
The three options
Ignore case stops "apple" and "Apple" landing in different places. Ignore leading articles drops a leading "a", "an" or "the" for the purposes of sorting only, so "The Matrix" files under M like a library catalogue. Remove duplicates keeps just one copy of each repeated item, respecting the ignore-case setting.
Sorting a list of unique lines? The duplicate line remover pairs well with this. Need to tidy text pasted from a PDF first, use the line break remover, and to count what you end up with try the word counter.
