PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF or BMP - multiple files welcome, all converted locally

One format in, another out

Image formats each have a job. PNG is lossless and keeps transparency, so it is ideal for logos, icons and screenshots. JPEG throws away a little detail to make photos far smaller. WebP is the modern all-rounder that beats both on file size. This converter redraws your image onto a canvas and re-encodes it in the format you pick, all in the browser, so nothing is uploaded and a batch of images converts in a moment.

The transparency trap

The one gotcha when converting to JPEG is transparency. JPEG has no alpha channel, so any transparent area would otherwise render as solid black. This tool fills those pixels with white first, which is what you almost always want. If keeping transparency matters - say a logo meant to sit on a coloured background - convert to PNG or WebP instead.

Quality and batching

For the lossy formats, JPEG and WebP, a quality slider appears. Around 90 is visually lossless for most images; drop toward 75 for smaller files when a slight softening is acceptable. PNG has no quality setting because it never discards detail. Converting a whole folder? Drop them all in, convert once, and hit Download all as zip. From here you might also want the image compressor to squeeze file size further, the image resizer to change dimensions, or the favicon generator to build a full icon set from one picture.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert PNG to JPG?
Drop your PNG in, choose JPEG as the target format, and download. Because JPEG has no transparency, any see-through areas are filled with white so they do not turn black. You can convert several PNGs at once and grab them all in a single zip.
What happens to transparency when I convert to JPEG?
JPEG cannot store transparency, so transparent pixels are painted white before encoding. If you need to keep transparency, convert to PNG or WebP instead, both of which support an alpha channel.
Is WebP better than PNG or JPG?
WebP usually makes smaller files than either at the same visual quality, and it supports both transparency and lossy compression. Every modern browser displays it. The main reason to avoid WebP is compatibility with older desktop software that has not caught up.
Can I convert multiple images at once?
Yes. Drop in as many as you like, pick one target format, and each gets its own download button. Use "Download all as zip" to get the whole batch in one file.
Are my images uploaded to convert them?
No. Conversion happens entirely in your browser using an HTML canvas. Your files never leave your device, which makes this safe for private and confidential images.
