Type any one figure - hourly, daily, weekly, monthly or annual - and the rest fill in instantly from your working hours.

Gross figures, before tax. Based on 52 weeks and 12 months per year.

How the conversion works

Every figure is derived from a yearly total using two simple assumptions: 52 weeks and 12 months in a year. Whichever box you type in becomes the anchor, gets turned into an annual salary, and the other four are calculated back out:

  • Annual = weekly x 52 = monthly x 12
  • Weekly = hourly x hours per week
  • Daily = weekly / days per week
  • Hourly = annual / (hours per week x 52)

Because the hourly and daily rates depend on how much you actually work, the two boxes at the top let you set your real hours and days per week. Drop hours to 30 and the hourly rate for the same salary rises, because you are earning it in less time.

A worked example

Say you are offered 20 per hour for a 40-hour, 5-day week. That is 800 a week, 160 a day, about 3,466.67 a month and 41,600 a year. Type any one of those into the matching box and you will see the other four appear. Comparing a contract day rate to a permanent salary? Enter the day rate and read the annual figure straight off.

Gross, not take-home

These are gross amounts, before income tax, national insurance or pension contributions. Take-home pay depends entirely on where you live and your personal allowances, so treat the annual figure as the headline salary rather than what lands in your account. To see how a raise stacks up in percentage terms, use the percentage calculator; to model a bonus reduced by tax, the VAT calculator and discount calculator use the same kind of maths.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert an hourly wage to an annual salary?
Multiply the hourly rate by the hours you work per week, then by 52 weeks. At 20 per hour for 40 hours a week that is 20 x 40 x 52 = 41,600 a year. Change the hours per week to match your own schedule.
How do I convert an annual salary to an hourly rate?
Divide the annual salary by the number of hours worked in a year. For a 40-hour week that is 52 x 40 = 2,080 hours, so a 50,000 salary is about 24.04 per hour.
Is this gross or take-home pay?
These figures are gross - before income tax, national insurance, pension and other deductions. Your actual take-home pay will be lower, and the exact amount depends on your country, tax code and allowances.
How many working hours are there in a year?
A common full-time figure is 2,080 hours, which is 40 hours a week times 52 weeks. Part-time or different schedules change this - adjust the hours-per-week field and every other figure updates.
