Signing a PDF in your browser

Most of the time, "signing" a document just means adding a picture of your signature in the right place and sending it back. That is exactly what this tool does, without a printer, scanner or account. You open the PDF, make a signature by drawing it or typing your name in a handwriting style, then click the page to drop it where it belongs. When you download, the signature is drawn permanently onto the page using the pdf-lib engine - it is not a separate layer that can be peeled off in a normal reader.

Are electronic signatures legally binding?

For everyday paperwork - consent forms, letters of agreement, invoices, internal approvals and a great many contracts - a typed or drawn electronic signature is widely accepted and enforceable across the UK, EU and US, provided both sides intend to be bound by it. The catch is that a handful of document types are treated more strictly. Wills, some property deeds, certain court and notarised documents and specific financial instruments may require a certificate-based digital signature (one that cryptographically proves who signed and that the file has not changed) or a traditional wet-ink original. When in doubt about a formal or regulated document, confirm the requirement before relying on a simple image signature.

How to sign, step by step

  1. Drop your PDF onto the box above - it renders straight away, nothing is uploaded.
  2. Choose Draw and sign with your mouse or finger, or choose Type and enter your name.
  3. Click the spot on the page where the signature should sit. Add as many as you need.
  4. Drag each one to fine-tune it and use its slider to resize.
  5. Press Sign and download to save a new copy ending in -signed.pdf.

Your document stays private

Everything here runs locally in the browser tab, so a signed employment offer or medical form never travels across the internet. If you need to prepare the file first, you can merge PDFs into one before signing, split a PDF down to just the pages that need a signature, or rotate a PDF so a sideways scan sits the right way up. Once signed, compress the PDF if you need a smaller file to email back.

Frequently asked questions

How do I sign a PDF without printing it?
Open the PDF here, draw your signature with a mouse or finger or type your name in a script font, then click the page where you want it and drag it into place. Press Sign and download to get a finished PDF with the signature baked in. No printer, scanner or app needed.
Is a drawn or typed signature legally valid?
For most everyday documents - letters, forms, internal approvals, many contracts - a typed or drawn electronic signature is widely accepted and enforceable in the UK, EU and US, as long as both parties intend to agree. Some regulated documents (wills, certain property deeds, notarised papers) may require a certificate-based digital signature or a wet-ink original, so check the specific requirement first.
Does this tool upload my document anywhere?
No. The PDF is opened, rendered and signed entirely inside your browser tab using JavaScript. Nothing is sent to any server, so confidential agreements and personal details never leave your device.
Can I place more than one signature or add initials?
Yes. Create a signature, then click each spot on the page where you want it - every click adds another placement. You can drag each one, resize it with its slider, and remove any you do not want from the list before you download.
What is the difference between this and a digital certificate signature?
This tool adds a visible image of your signature, which is what most documents need. A certificate-based digital signature also cryptographically seals the file and proves who signed it, which is required for some legal and financial paperwork. Use dedicated eIDAS or Adobe certificate tools when that level of proof is mandated.
