Slug Generator
Type a title and get a clean, lowercase, SEO-friendly URL slug - accents stripped, symbols gone, updating as you type.
What makes a good slug
A slug is the human-readable tail of a URL, and search engines use it as a ranking and relevance signal. The rules are simple: all lowercase, words separated by hyphens, and nothing but letters, numbers and hyphens - no spaces, no punctuation, no accents. This generator applies all of that automatically as you type, so you can lift a headline straight into a clean address.
How the conversion works
The text is put through a few steps in order. First accents are stripped by splitting each character into its base letter and its accent mark (Unicode NFD normalisation) and dropping the mark, so "e" with an accent becomes plain "e". Then everything is lowercased, symbols and punctuation are removed, and runs of spaces collapse into a single separator. Finally any leading or trailing separators are trimmed off.
Options that help
- Separator - hyphen for web URLs (the SEO default), or underscore for filenames and code identifiers.
- Remove stop words - drops filler words like "the", "and" and "of" for a tighter, keyword-led slug.
- Max length - caps the slug and trims at a whole word so it never ends mid-word. Around 60 characters is a sensible ceiling.
