How this converter works

Drop a .docx file in and it is rendered right here in the page, laid out into pages the way a word processor would. There is no upload: the document is opened in your browser's memory and drawn onto the screen. When you are happy with the preview, press Save as PDF. That opens your browser's print dialog with the page furniture hidden, leaving only the document. Choose Save as PDF as the destination (on Windows it may read "Microsoft Print to PDF"), pick a location, and the browser writes the PDF for you. Because the browser is doing the PDF writing, the file stays entirely on your device.

What renders well, and what does not

Plain letters, reports, essays and CVs come out looking very close to the original. Headings, bold and italic text, lists, images and straightforward tables are all handled. Complex Word layouts render approximately: multi-column pages, floating text boxes, some nested tables, and fonts you do not have installed may shift slightly. If exact fidelity matters, printing to PDF straight from Word gives the truest result. This tool is aimed at quick, private conversions where you do not want to send a document to a stranger's server.

Why .docx and not .doc

The .docx format is really a zip of XML files, which a browser can read. The older .doc format is an opaque binary format from a different era and cannot be parsed reliably in the browser. If you have a .doc, open it in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs and re-save it as .docx, then convert it here.

Working the other way, PDF to Word pulls text out of a PDF. Once you have a PDF you can merge it with others, split it, or compress it to shrink the file. To turn a page into an image instead, use PDF to JPG.

Frequently asked questions

Is my Word document uploaded to a server?
Not in the default browser mode. Your .docx is opened and rendered entirely inside this tab, and the PDF is written by your own browser when you save. The file never leaves your device. If a high-fidelity cloud mode is offered and you switch to it, the file is uploaded for that conversion and deleted straight afterwards.
How does the PDF actually get created?
The browser does it. When you press Save as PDF, your browser opens its print dialog with everything except the document hidden. Choose "Save as PDF" (or "Microsoft Print to PDF" on Windows) as the destination and pick where to save. That is why there is no upload step in browser mode.
Why does my document look slightly different from Word?
The tool re-renders the .docx using an in-browser layout engine, not Word itself, so complex layouts, exotic fonts, text boxes and some tables may render approximately. For everyday letters, reports and CVs the result is very close. If you need pixel-perfect fidelity, print to PDF from Word directly, or use the cloud mode where available.
Why will it not accept my .doc file?
This tool reads the modern .docx format only. The older .doc format is a completely different binary format. Open the file in Word or a free editor and use Save As to store it as .docx, then bring it back here.
