What this converter actually does
This tool reads the real text layer inside your PDF and rebuilds it as an editable Word
document. It walks each page, collects every character with its position, groups them back
into lines, joins lines into paragraphs where the spacing suggests a break, and marks short
lines set in a larger font as headings. The result is a genuine .docx file you
can open and edit in Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice or Pages.
Text, not an exact photocopy
Be clear about what you are getting: the words of the document, as clean editable paragraphs - not a pixel-perfect clone. Multi-column layouts, tables, footnotes, precise fonts and positioned images are not reconstructed. Fully layout-faithful conversion is genuinely hard: it means reflowing text boxes, matching embedded fonts, rebuilding table grids and re-flowing images, which is why the tools that do it well (Acrobat, Word's own importer) are heavyweight paid software. For most jobs - reusing the wording of a report, quoting a letter, editing a contract draft - the text is exactly what you need.
Scanned PDFs have no text to extract
If your PDF is a scan - a photo or image of a page saved as a PDF - there is no text layer at all, just pixels. This converter will come back empty or nearly so, because there is literally nothing to copy. To handle a scan you first need OCR to recognise the characters in the image. A quick test: open the PDF in any reader and try to select a sentence with your cursor. If you cannot highlight the words, they are an image and this tool cannot read them.
